Sugar CRM is a great open source solution, which not only allows for the applications own customization but allows for full customization with some technical help.

A mature and feature rich solution. It's by far the best open source solution and a rival for commercial solutions (such as Siebel and MS Dynamics). It has most features that you would require for a marketing / salesforce automation solution. The only drawback: it's NOT easy to use
